SANParks - South African National Parks

SAEON Elwandle Coastal Node works very closely with SANParks in several Marine Protected Areas under their management, i.e. Bird Island (Algoa Bay), Tsitsikamma National Park, Garden Route National Park (Knysna Estuary), Table Mountain National Park (False Bay) and West Coast National Park (Langebaan Lagoon).


SAEON Elwandle Coastal Node works very closely with SANParks in several Marine Protected Areas under their management, i.e. Bird Island (Algoa Bay), Tsitsikamma National Park, Garden Route National Park (Knysna Estuary), Table Mountain National Park (False Bay) and West Coast National Park (Langebaan Lagoon). Current projects registered with SANParks include:

  • Tsitsikamma National Park Monitoring Programme
  • Tsitsikamma National Park food-web study
  • Influence of predicted climate change and sea-level rise on the diversity, distribution, abundance and community composition of salt marsh in the Knysna Estuary
  • Algoa Bay Sentinel Site Continuous Monitoring Platform (CMP)
  • Algoa Bay Sentinel Site Pelagic Ecosystem Long-term Ecological Research Programme (PE-LTERP)
  • Algoa Bay Rocky Shore and Subtidal Reef Long-term Research Programme (RSSR-LTERP)
  • Algoa Bay Sandy Beaches Long-term Ecological Research Programme (SBG_LTERP)
  • Diatoms of the West Coast National Park
SAEON staff also participates and presents at the Addo National Park Marine Protected Area Symposium that takes place every two years.
