Observation Science

The hydrological cycle, energy balance and carbon cycle are key processes of our earth system and are interlinked through physical, biogeochemical and biological complex interactions. Both natural and human drivers influence these key processes and have cascading consequences for our environment. Focusing on grasslands, forests and wetlands, the node’s objective is to create and maintain integrated observation platforms that provide long-term, as well as critical (rare) parameter data sets on these interlinked processes. The node aims to use these long-term observation platforms to improve the understanding and reduce uncertainty around human induced global change at local and regional scales to enable sustainable use of natural resources and our environment.
