Dr Christopher Duncombe Rae is a physical oceanographer with experience in collecting, processing, quantitatively analyzing, and managing diverse types of oceanographic data. He is Specialist Scientist with the Department of Environmental Affairs, South Africa. He is managing the implementation of a data and information management system (MIMS) for the Chief Directorate: Oceans and Coastal Research, a module of the Oceans and Coasts Information Management System (OCIMS) for South Africa. He has conducted research in the ocean and shelf environment of subantarctic islands, Benguela and Agulhas ecosystems, and participated in research cruises in the North Atlantic and North Pacific Oceans. He has extensive skill in programming and software design to support data analysis and data management. He is expert in Matlab and Unix shell scripting, and has experience with other programming languages (Python, Fortran) as well as Unix system and network administration.
